Meet Bonny - She's not just different, she's interesting!
Meet Bonny McHoag, star of “Bonny’s Debut,”
book three in the series Porkington’s World.
We sat down with Bonny McHoag and got the scoop on her life in The City.
Bonny is the ward of Swinson McHoag, and daughter of his late brother Bo. She shares an apartment in The City with Swinson and her “uncle” Porkington Hamm. Of course you can read all about it in “Bonny’s Debut,” but here are some juicy deets.
Question: First things first. You have your own names for Swinson and Porkington, don’t you?
Answer: Ha-ha. I was hoping you wouldn’t bring that up, but I do. I call Swinson “Winnie” because when I was little I couldn’t say the letter “S”. I call Porkington “Popo.”
Q: I understand you’re a busy person. Tell us how you spend your time.
A: I’m a music student at City School for the Arts, concentrating on keyboards and xylophone. Of course that requires a lot of practice time outside of school hours.
I also work part time at Mugsy’s Cafe. Try the bakery there. It’s to die for!
Q: You do some volunteer work too, don’t you?
A: Oh, yes. I work with the Friends of City Library on their annual fund-raiser book sale. It’s really a lot of hard work, but the “fossils” are a great bunch, and it’s for a good cause. I love the library!
Q: Favorite food?
A: People think that because I make a lot of salads I must love them, but that’s not actually true. I’d rather get my vegetables eating soup. And I love avocado toast.
Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Lately it’s been chai latte, but sometimes iced coffee when it’s really hot out.
Q: Cat or dog?
A: I do love dogs, but right now I have a little gray cat named Grisette. She’s sweet!
Q: Best friend?
A: My bestie is LaDonna. She’s an uber-talented dance student at City School for the Arts. Plus we live in the same building. I’ve known her, like, forever.
Q: Worst headache?
A: Gosh, right now that would be a toss-up between “Tutti-Flutey,” the two catty flute players in the orchestra, and the evil assistant principal. Everyone calls her “the Head.” I call her “headache!”
Q: Current project?
A: I’m working on learning the xylophone parts for an end-of-summer performance of “The Carnival of the Animals” by French composer Camille Saint-Saens. You should totally come! It’s going to be great, and there’s also an art show happening at the school.
Q: Current crush? I can see you blushing, Bonny!
A: (laughs) His name is Ian. He’s also a music student, studying at City University. I hope to go there some day.
Well, that’s it for our interview with Bonny. Read the rest of the story in “Bonny’s Debut.” It’s available in paperback and e-book from your favorite online booksellers. Ask your local bookshop or library to carry it! And don’t forget to leave a rating or review, so other readers can enjoy your favorite books.
Bye for now!
